MADISON HEIGHTS — The Madison Heights Arts Board is kicking off the Halloween season early this year with the return of its Pumpkin Walk event, now in its fourth year. Attendees can look forward to trick-or-treating along park trails, enjoying the atmosphere of a fall night with decor and music to match.

MADISON HEIGHTS — For more than 20 years, a program at the Active Adult Center in Madison Heights has been helping people complete their taxes. Last year, four volunteers completed returns for more than 100 clients. In years prior, up to seven completed returns for 300-400 clients.

MADISON HEIGHTS — What began as an experiment at the start of the pandemic has proven to have real staying power, as the Madison Heights Food Pantry continues to distribute food and other goods to those in need.

SOUTHFIELD — Local artists will perform dance, poetry, songs, music and more at an upcoming event that will highlight awareness for those receiving foster care services, as well as those aging out of the system, with the goal of driving more resources their way.

HAZEL PARK/MADISON HEIGHTS — On Nov. 8, Hazel Park Mayor Pro Tem Mike McFall and Madison Heights resident Robert Noble will square off for a seat representing the newly redrawn 8th District of the Michigan House of Representatives. McFall is running as a Democrat, and Noble as a Republican.

HAZEL PARK — A woman will stand trial for allegedly speeding away from Hazel Park police with her infant in the car, slamming into another vehicle and injuring its driver, and then fighting with the responding officer.

HAZEL PARK — Gov. Gretchen Whitmer recently made appointments to a variety of state boards and commissions, and Luke Londo, a member of the Hazel Park City Council, is one of them.

SOUTHFIELD — Domestic violence is a complex problem that is present in every community, and Southfield is trying to be part of the solution. In addition to partnerships and police training aimed at resolving abuse situations, the city holds a walk each fall to raise awareness. The event empowers victims with the knowledge that help is available, and warns others that abuse won’t be tolerated.

MADISON HEIGHTS — The Madison Heights Arts Board is celebrating its fifth year this fall and has much to show for it, from massive murals spanning the walls of buildings, to seasonal events like Trail Tunes and the Pumpkin Walk.

MADISON HEIGHTS — Three trustees have resigned from the Madison District Public Schools Board of Education, citing compatibility issues with the rest of the board, and unease over social media discourse around a previous superintendent.

SOUTHFIELD — People will soon come together to march against hate and discrimination during a walk by the Anti-Defamation League, or ADL, in the heart of Southfield. The event comes amid what organizers say has been an increase in antisemitic incidents in recent years.
