BIRMINGHAM — The city of Birmingham recently released its annual crime report for 2024. The report is a detailed document that outlines the Birmingham Police Department’s activities and crime statistics from the last year.

BIRMINGHAM — Once again, Birmingham middle school students will participate in the “Birbery,” Birmingham’s take on the Newbery award. This annual reading challenge has been a Birmingham tradition since 2011 and encourages students to read in a fun and engaging way.

BIRMINGHAM  — Students at Wylie E. Groves High School now have access to the newly-renovated sensory room, known as the “Recharging Room.”

BEVERLY HILLS — Sidewalks continue to be a priority to the village of Beverly Hills, as a process is in place to implement grant money to improve connectivity throughout the village.

BLOOMFIELD HILLS — Marian High School student Charlotte DuBay is one of 16 local students who received the DAR Good Citizen Award from the Piety Hill Chapter, National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution.

BIRMINGHAM — In the Birmingham Adult Transition Program, students of Vicki Kubus are encouraged to learn and execute entrepreneurial skills as they run a microbusiness.

BIRMINGHAM — This spring, The Community House will hold its Grand Gala, where they will recognize Oakland University President Ora Hirsch Pescovitz as the Grand Honoree.

BIRMINGHAM — Residents within the George W. Kuhn Drainage District are eligible to apply for RainSmart Rebates up to $2,000 to put toward sustainable practices, such as planting native trees, rain barrel installation and a rain garden.

BLOOMFIELD HILLS — Bloomfield Hills Schools graduate and established hair stylist and barber, Dion A. Johnson, shared his story, as well as his family’s, in his book  “Revolutionary Vision Boulevard,” released last summer.

BIRMINGHAM — Franklin Village Council President David Goldberg was elected to his position this past November.

BLOOMFIELD HILLS  — Retired Lt. Col. Harry Stewart Jr., who was in the 301st Fighter Squadron of the 332nd Fighter Group, also known as the Tuskegee Airmen, died at the age of 100 in Bloomfield Hills Feb. 2.

BIRMINGHAM — Though his retirement is in full swing, Tom Flynn, the former athletic director for Wylie E. Groves High School, remains a valued member of the school’s athletic department and the county’s athletic director association.
