HARRISON TOWNSHIP — Facing a shortage of firefighters and EMTs, the Harrison Township Board of Trustees approved a new student hiring program proposed by the Harrison Township Fire Department at the Aug. 12 board meeting.

MOUNT CLEMENS — A month may not seem very long, but it’s a blistering turnaround time in the world of public policy, and it’s all the time that was needed to restore a program thought to be lost to the ages.

MACOMB TOWNSHIP — The makeup of the Macomb Township Board of Trustees will change very little as a result of the Aug. 6 Republican primary election. All contested incumbents will be on the ballot for the general election in November.

CLINTON TOWNSHIP — Perhaps you have noticed a bit of redecorating at the Clinton-Macomb Public Library’s main branch. Plain white walls block off parts of the inside to guests, while anyone hoping to use the drive-thru book return has been turned away with portable fencing and orange barriers.

MOUNT CLEMENS — Julian Roper’s office has a nice view. A look left from his desk reveals the interior courtyard of Mount Clemens High School, a common area with planters and trees that gives a nice break from the concrete parking lot and fluorescent light reflecting off the floors of the school’s hallways.

MOUNT CLEMENS — For decades, a motel has sat at the corner of North River Road and Gratiot Avenue, abandoned and left to exist as an eyesore on the doorstep to Mount Clemens.  It will be an eyesore no more.

HARRISON TOWNSHIP — The 10th annual Parade of Lights is set to sail the Clinton River at 9 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 3.  The annual parade of illuminated boats will sail the Clinton River upstream from Lambrecht Marina at 9 p.m.

MACOMB TOWNSHIP — When state Sen. Veronica Klinefelt brought her first big piece of road funding to Macomb Township, she left with a new nickname — “The Road Warrior” — and a gift befitting the title: a copy of the “Mad Max 2” movie poster with her face imposed over actor Mel Gibson’s.

MOUNT CLEMENS — After years of research, planning, work sessions, lobbying, fighting and setbacks, the future of water in the Macomb County seat began at the July 15 Mount Clemens City Commission meeting.

MACOMB TOWNSHIP — Travelers along Romeo Plank Road may encounter some delays in the near future. Those with light stomachs may not be so interested in the reason why.
