MADISON HEIGHTS — At this year’s Trail Tunes, more than a dozen bands will line the loop at Civic Center Park.

HAZEL PARK — Mere weeks after tying the knot, Melissa Albers and her new husband, Micah, were clearing storm debris from their Hazel Park home when a branch slid the wrong way off the roof and struck her in a near-fatal blow.

OAKLAND COUNTY — The body of a 36-year-old swimmer who was reported to have been missing since Thursday, Aug. 24, was recovered by divers in Walled Lake Aug. 25, according to a press release from the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office.

MADISON HEIGHTS — A biweekly program has begun at the Madison Heights Public Library, offering expert advice about managing one’s wealth.

HAZEL PARK — At the end of the month, Hazel Park Public Schools will usher in the new school year at its Hometown Huddle, featuring the first home football game of the season.

OAKLAND COUNTY — Oakland County Clerk/Register of Deeds Lisa Brown is alerting people about misleading mailings received by residents under the guise of representing Oakland County and tax collection offices, according to a press release.

HAZEL PARK — Now in its 11th year, the Hazel Park Art Fair will once again bring together talent both established and upcoming. New this year is a partnership with the Clawson Clay Guild, whose potters will teach their craft, get audience members involved, and compete with each other in different categories.

HAZEL PARK — A local pawn shop was broken into and its guns stolen by a group of men. Police believe they have captured two of the suspects, but the other two suspects are still at large, and there may be connections between them and other burglaries in the area.

MADISON HEIGHTS — A lawsuit has been filed in federal court against the Madison Heights Police Department and four of its officers, alleging they used excessive force on a resident last year and violated his constitutional rights under the Fourth and 14th amendments.

DETROIT — The first prison sentence has been handed down in a corruption case that has ensnarled the Madison District Public Schools for years. John David, 65, a former contractor for the school district who owned Emergency Restoration in Troy, was sentenced Aug. 14 by U.S. District Judge Laurie Michelson.
