Warren Police officers receive national honor for heroism

WARREN — Warren Police Commissioner William Dwyer has acknowledged the heroic efforts of two of his officers after they recently received national recognition.

Officers Charles Cobble and Chad Rossow were awarded the June 2023 Officer of the Month Award from the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund. Cobble and Rossow were instrumental in stopping a juvenile from committing suicide. According to police, the male teen was holding a gun to his head threatening to end his life.

Dwyer thanked the officers for their bravery, de-escalation, and communication skills which led to the teen dropping the gun and preventing a tragic loss of life. Officers took the teen for psychiatric evaluation and prevention.

“When the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund contacted my office for a submission, I instantly knew Officers Cobble and Rossow were the officers to nominate,” Dwyer said. “This award is very special and is only given to those officers who went above and beyond. I, along with every member of this department, am so proud and happy that officer Cobble and officer Rossow received national recognition.”

The National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund is a national organization which honors the valor and sacrifices of law enforcement, and educates the community, making it safer to serve. The organization pays special tribute to those who made the ultimate sacrifice of their life. The organization is held in high esteem among the law enforcement community, according to the commissioner.
