EASTPOINTE/WARREN — The Warren and Eastpointe fire departments are working together to investigate a pair of house fires that occurred the morning of Oct. 10 that Warren Fire Commissioner Skip McAdams said are “suspicious in origin.”

At approximately 6:14 a.m., Warren firefighters responded to a report of a house fire in the 21500 block of Syracuse Avenue. When firefighters arrived, they reportedly found flames showing in the front of the house from all angles.

“It was fully involved upon our arrival,” McAdams said.

The lone occupant of the home, a man, was uninjured. A dog that was being kept in a cage died but another one was rescued, McAdams said. There were also no injuries to firefighters.

Warren firefighters had the fire knocked down in less than 20 minutes, he said, and the home is expected to be a total loss. But while the fire remains under investigation, McAdams said it is being considered suspicious in origin.

“It may be related to a fire that occurred in Eastpointe just after because right after our fire, the owner of the home had relocated to a home in Eastpointe and that home experienced a fire, too,” McAdams said.

Eastpointe Fire Chief Nick Sage said his department responded to a report of a house fire in the 18200 block of Curtain Avenue the same morning.

At the Eastpointe home, firefighters were able to contain the fire to the living room.

“Firefighters were able to make a quick interior attack and confine (the fire) to that one room,” Sage said.

The three occupants were able to escape uninjured, but Sage couldn’t confirm if the occupant of the Warren home was among them, stating that the fire was still under investigation.

“There seems to be some kind of a link between the two of them,” Sage said.
