ROCHESTER HILLS — Fifty-six.
In just two games this season, Rochester Hills Stoney Creek (2-0) has averaged 56 points per game behind senior running back Jon Fogler.
Stoney Creek’s offensive firepower has coincided with its dominant display on the defensive side, as it showed once more during its second win of the season Sept. 1 against Bloomfield Hills at Stoney Creek High School.
Fogler was untouchable on the ground as he rushed for 212 yards and three touchdowns in Stoney Creek’s 42-7 win. Junior quarterback Justin Taylor tallied 103 yards rushing and 131 yards passing with two total touchdowns (one rushing and one passing).
Senior wide receiver Sam McDermott hauled in the lone receiving touchdown for Stoney Creek.
Stoney Creek took a 21-7 lead into halftime, but continued to show strengths on both sides of the ball as senior Andrew McNamara finished with four sacks, nine total tackles and a forced fumble to lead the defensive effort. Seth Luhmann added seven tackles in the win.
Stoney Creek coach Nick Merlo said that there’s still work to be done with his squad.
“We did a lot of good things, but we got to keep getting better,” Merlo said.
Stoney Creek will host Oakland Activities Association-Red rival West Bloomfield Sept. 9 in the team’s cause game for 2022. Stoney Creek will be playing to benefit Dutton Farm, whose mission is to empower and support adults with disabilities.
“It’s a really special game for us,” Merlo said.
