MACOMB TOWNSHIP/SHELBY TOWNSHIP — The Macomb Dakota defense has been highly discussed throughout the course of the season, and for good reason.

MACOMB COUNTY — As L’Anse Creuse Unified head coach Jon Nader said before the night began, the Macomb Area Conference was “flying by the seat of our pants” as nine teams gathered for the inaugural media day event.

The march towards a state championship is in full swing for high school football teams around the state, and week one didn’t disappoint with the dramatics.

From explosive offenses to nail-biting finishes, it had all the makings of what playoff football embodies – the dramatics of a win or go home scenario.

Little did Shrine know it would be its last trip into the Michigan Collegiate (9-1) redzone while the Cougars’ explosive offensive unit would find the endzone at will, defeating Shrine Catholic (7-3) Nov. 2 at Warren Lincoln High School.

TROY — By the looks of an Instagram video showing 22-year-old Troy resident Angela Kattula take the stage prior to her world record-setting squat at the USA Powerlifting Raw Nationals, you’d say she was the most confident person in the building.

BLOOMFIELD HILLS — The essence of being a team is going through the ebbs and flows of emotion together, overcoming whatever stands in their path hand-in-hand.

OAKLAND COUNTY — Oakland County typically seems to have a hold on the high school tennis scene, but the schools located in Birmingham, Bloomfield Hills and Beverly Hills took it to a whole new level this season.

GROSSE POINTES — It had been a long time coming for both Grosse Pointe South boys and girls cross country, but a league title was finally back in the hands of the Blue Devils.

FARMINGTON HILLS — Talk about a weekend he’ll never forget: North Farmington senior Jack Weingarden entered the Division 2 state finals unseeded and with memories of only making it to round 2 in 2023.

SHELBY TOWNSHIP — Walk through the doors of Advanced Sports Performance on any given night during the week, and there are three things you’re guaranteed to notice: smiles on numerous faces, softball players perfecting their craft and owner Leslie Heisler’s vibrant personality.

WARREN — If you asked senior Aggie Broadwell where her teammates’ heads were at before the season, she’d would’ve told you they were already underwater.

METRO DETROIT — Coaches across the state couldn’t ask for better weather as the Michigan High School Athletic Association hosted the girls golf state finals Oct. 18.

The Eastpointe High School varsity football program announced Oct. 24 that it will forfeit its final game of the season against Ortonville Brandon High School (6-3) citing safety concerns due to its depleted roster. The gridiron matchup was slated to take place Oct. 25 at Brandon High School.

As Troy and Troy Athens went head-to-head Oct. 18 at Troy High School, Athens was eager to snap Troy’s three-game win streak against the Red Hawks while the Colts were looking to find themselves back in the Michigan High School Athletic Association Division 1 playoff picture.

ST. CLAIR SHORES — The Power Play for Heroes on Nov. 15 not only hosts an entertaining hockey game — it also raises money for a good cause.
