SHELBY TOWNSHIP — The new Shelby Township featured artist for the months of November and December 2022 is Marshelia Williams. Her exhibition has been set up at the Shelby Township Senior Center, 14975 21 Mile Road, and will be on display through January 15.

Williams is a mixed media artist, abstract intuitive painter and art instructor. She is the founder and owner of The Son’s Creations Art Studio.

She earned her bachelor’s degree in Art Education from Western Michigan University and her Master of Education from Wayne State University. Williams has more than 15 years as a full-time art teacher who works with youths and adults and inspires them creatively.

When she is not teaching, she often works on her art in her studio. Originally from Muskegon, she now lives and operates her studio in southeast Michigan.

She said she likes to be able to make the art but also to share her works with others.

“I have been given a unique gift. I have the skill and ability to communicate my thoughts, feelings and beliefs on canvas. My faith and the colors of this world guide my intuitive process. I create for myself but love when others find a piece that speaks to them. My medium includes but (is) not limited to ink, fluid acrylics, alcohol ink and resin,” said Williams.

Regina Martin, of Muskegon, said she enjoys the look of the art and how it is made.

“I am a long-time art collector of Marshelia. I enjoy the design and process that she does. Marshelia’s beautiful work brings life to my home. It’s breathtaking,” she said.

Gina Gulley, of Pontiac, said Williams’ work is different and interesting.

“I love Marshelia’s art. Her work is unique, inspiring and beautiful. I am so thrilled that she is being featured and exhibiting,” she said.

Paulette Wilson, of Detroit, said she was even able to win some of Williams’ art.

“I had the fortunate opportunity to win one of Marshelia’s paintings through an Instagram contest. I was so happy. Her work is just gorgeous,” she said.
