ROCHESTER HILLS — The Oakland County Sheriff’s Office is asking for the public’s help in identifying a woman who reportedly passed a stolen check for thousands of dollars and then tried to use a stolen credit card.
The incidents, deputies said, occurred over a three-day period in July beginning in St. Clair Shores, where several women reported their purses stolen from their vehicles July 23.
Two days later, the suspect reportedly visited a drive-thru window of First State Bank, 1575 S. Rochester Road in Rochester Hills, used a stolen ID to pose as one of the women and successfully cashed a stolen check written for $3,250.
When the suspect attempted to cash a second check immediately after the first transaction, the teller became suspicious and tried to keep the suspect at the window until deputies arrived, but the woman fled.
The woman, police said, also tried to purchase $1,459 in gift cards from a Walmart in Roseville, but the purchase was declined, and she attempted additional purchases in Chesterfield Township.
The woman was last seen driving a white GMC Terrain with a stolen Michigan license plate, “EDR0962,” which was reported stolen July 26.
Anyone who can identify the suspect or who may have more information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-SPEAK UP. A reward of up to $1,000 is available for tips leading to the suspect’s arrest, and authorities said callers will remain anonymous.
