METRO DETROIT — Police in the metro Detroit area are warning residents to be wary of an uptick in phone scams, where callers impersonate local police and demand money.

BLOOMFIELD TOWNSHIP —  Police are alerting people to a new phone scam after a Bloomfield Township resident was reportedly swindled out of $500.

UTICA — At approximately 11:34 p.m. July 29, officers were dispatched to 8100 Hall Road for a report of a pedestrian personal injury accident that occurred in the intersection of Hall Road and Van Dyke Avenue.

CENTER LINE — When Center Line Police Dispatcher John Turpin received a call from a person about a power line down on top of their garage, it was almost like he was at the scene.

ROSEVILLE — Westbound Interstate 94 remains closed several hours after a multivehicle crash closed it during the morning of Sept. 13.

STERLING HEIGHTS — Sterling Heights police Sgt. Tony Roeske was on patrol early in the morning of Sept. 9, keeping a watchful eye for anyone who was trying to break into a pharmacy, according to the Police Department.

TROY — The Troy Police Department peacefully resolved a situation with a barricaded gunman Sept. 9.

METRO DETROIT — For the third year, law enforcement agencies will go head-to-head on a softball field to help raise money for youth programs.

MADISON HEIGHTS — A Romulus man stands accused of entering a fire station in Madison Heights and driving away with one of the department’s vehicles.

ROCHESTER HILLS — The Oakland County Sheriff’s Office is asking for the public’s help in identifying a woman who reportedly passed a stolen check for thousands of dollars and then tried to use a stolen credit card.

ROCHESTER HILLS/TROY — A Troy woman has died from injuries following a car crash in Rochester Hills Aug. 30.

GROSSE POINTE CITY/PARK — A pair of Apple AirPods led police to two men suspected in dozens of larcenies from vehicles in Grosse Pointe City and Grosse Pointe Park over the summer.

ORCHARD LAKE — Orchard Lake Director of City Services Gerry McCallum estimated that it was between five and seven years ago that the city’s Planning Commission put together a capital improvement plan that included adding space to the Orchard Lake Police Department and constructing a new Department of Public Works facility.

But on Tuesday, Aug. 30, county officials broke ground on a project to replace the aging facility with a brand-new headquarters for the Marine Division.
