Novi Memorial Day Run nears registration deadline
The last day to guarantee receiving a tech shirt for the Novi Memorial Day Run is May 1. The Memorial Day Run will include both a 5K starting at 7:30 a.m. and a mile fun run starting at 8:30 a.m. The race starts and ends at Fuerst Park, at 10 Mile and Taft roads. Attend the ‘Walk Your Heart to Health’ seminar

Library celebrates National Library Week with 2 book-bundle raffles
The Novi Public Library is having two book-bundle raffles in celebration of National Library week April 23-29. One raffle is for a bundle of early literacy and picture books, and the other is for school-age children’s books, such as readers and chapter books. Entry forms are located on the first floor of the library, near the information desk. Only one entry per person is permitted. Winners will be announced May 1.
Novi Toy Show coming to Suburban Collection Showplace
The Novi Toy Show will be held at the Suburban Collection Showplace, 46100 Grand River Ave., May 6. The event will feature everything from antique toys to Legos to sports cards to movie posters to “Star Wars” and monster collectables. Novi Youth Police and Fire Academy now taking applications
The Novi Youth Police and Fire Leadership Academy is accepting applications for this year’s session. The weeklong summer academy gives students an inside look at careers in law enforcement and fire prevention. The free program that will start July 17 is open to teens in grades six through 10 who reside in Novi or attend school in the city. Public Safety Awards to be held May 4
The annual Novi Public Safety Awards ceremony will be held at 7:30 p.m. May 4 at City Hall. Awards will be given to those who have performed lifesaving, meritorious acts, as well as the police officer, firefighter and civilian employees of the year. The event is open to the public.
Try being a firefighter for a day
Residents are invited to come experience what it is like to be a firefighter 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday, April 29. The program offers insight into the life of a paid-on-call firefighter with the Novi Fire Department. Residents will get an inside look at fire operations and learn the basics of search and rescue, extrications, and extinguishing fires. Applicants must be 18 years of age or older and in good physical shape, according to the press release. Applications can be found at cityofnovi.org.
