MACOMB COUNTY — On April 16, Macomb County Commissioner Mai Xiong won the race for a partial term of office representing the state’s District 13 in the Michigan House of Representatives.

WARREN — Democratic Macomb County Commissioner Mai Xiong defeated Republican Ronald Singer in the April 16 special election to fill the District 13 seat in the Michigan House of Representatives left vacant when Lori Stone was elected Warren’s mayor in November.

WARREN — Mayor Lori Stone gave her first budget presentation on April 8 at the Warren Community Center’s auditorium before nearly 200 in attendance. Those gathered included one councilman, residents, city department heads and members of the media.

HAZEL PARK/MADISON HEIGHTS — Enhancements to Hazel Park’s main street and new park lights in Madison Heights are among 15 projects in Oakland County set to receive federal funds.

MOUNT CLEMENS — Mount Clemens city commissioners approved the sale of a city-owned parcel on April 15 to help with the construction of a new apartment complex.

CLINTON TOWNSHIP — At the Clinton Township Board of Trustees meeting on April 15, some residents made it known that they wanted to keep the wood chipping service the township provided.

MADISON HEIGHTS — Last year, three places in Madison Heights were renamed in honor of prominent community members. That effort will continue this year, now that the City Council has approved recommendations by the Historical Commission for even more places commemorating key figures from the city’s past.

FRASER — During Fraser’s April 11 City Council meeting, residents recommended the city make a resolution for a cease-fire in the Israel-Hamas war.

TROY — The Troy City Council has chosen Deputy City Manager Robert Bruner to take over the city manager position following Mark Miller’s upcoming departure.

GROSSE POINTE SHORES — Some people wear multiple hats at work. Tom Krolczyk wore so many hats during his 25-year career at Grosse Pointe Shores that he would have needed an entire closet to house them.

UTICA — The Utica City Council reviewed the marijuana business ordinance that it had approved at its Feb. 13 City Council meeting and determined March 12 that some changes needed to be made in order to be fair, competitive and transparent.

STERLING HEIGHTS — Repeated public comments at Sterling Heights City Council meetings over violence in the Middle East recently prompted the council to pass a resolution that promotes peace and laments violence throughout the world.

EASTPOINTE — The city of Eastpointe is considering an ordinance that would allow it to give out a certain number of recreational marijuana licenses. While some residents have shown support, many have attended City Council meetings to voice their opposition to the ordinance.

CLINTON TOWNSHIP — Nixle, the emergency alert system the township uses to alert residents who sign up, was not engaged following the explosive fire at the Goo Smoke Shop on March 4.

OAKLAND COUNTY — At his State of the County address at The Hawk Community Center in Farmington Hills April 4, Oakland County Executive Dave Coulter painted an optimistic picture of where things stand in the county.

CLINTON TOWNSHIP — Things got heated at a Clinton Township Board of Trustees special meeting at noon on April 8, the day of the eclipse, culminating in supervisor Bob Cannon breaking his gavel.

CLINTON TOWNSHIP — Township Supervisor Bob Cannon, who has served on the Clinton Township Board of Trustees for 40 years, is not seeking reelection this fall.

CLAWSON — The Clawson fiscal year 2024-2025 goals and objectives were approved in a 3-2 vote at the City Council meeting April 2.

ROSEVILLE — The Roseville City Council unanimously approved the purchase of several trucks for the Department of Public Services at its March 26 meeting.

NOVI — The Novi City Council narrowly approved the city’s 2023 Active Mobility Plan during its regular meeting March 18.
