1. Oakland County Polar Plunge
Feb. 4 • Walled Lake
Bundle up while watching others take an icy bath during the Oakland County Polar Plunge on Saturday at The Beach Tiki Bar & Boil, 142 E. Walled Lake Drive in Walled Lake. Law enforcement teams will jump at 10 a.m., followed by a pre-party at 11 a.m. and the rest of the plungers at noon. The annual event is the biggest fundraiser for Special Olympics Michigan, helping to provide year-round training and services to the 22,000-plus athletes with intellectual disabilities in the state. 2. Chilly Fest
Feb. 4 • Grosse Pointe Park
Grosse Pointe Park will host its Chilly Fest from 2 to 6 p.m. Saturday on Kercheval Avenue, Charlevoix Street and Mack Avenue. Activities will include trolley, train and carriage rides; a frozen fish fling, chair swing, ropes course and rock climbing wall; pony rides and a petting zoo; and live wood carving. Warm up with the chilli cook-off and s'mores station; there will also be food trucks and local businesses offering food and beverage samples. For more information, visit grossepointepark.org.
3. Winter Carnival
Feb. 4 • Oakland Township
The Oakland Township Parks and Recreation Commission is sponsoring a free Winter Carnival from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday at Bear Creek Nature Park. Outdoor activities will include ice carving demonstrations; snow games such as penguin bowling and a hockey goal shoot; archery with princess Merida from Disney's "Brave"; animal tracking; and ice skating. Inside a heated tent, a magic show will take place at 1:15 and 2 p.m. and an interactive puppet show will happen at 12:30 and 2:15 p.m. A food truck will be on site. 4. Gala Concert Fundraiser
Feb. 4 • Troy
The Troy High School orchestra program is inviting the community to its 30th annual Gala Concert Fundraiser at 7 p.m. Saturday in the school auditorium, 4777 Northfield Parkway. Fox 2 News reporter and Troy High alumnus Roop Raj will be the master of ceremonies. Following the concert, more than 40 local eateries will serve hors d’oeuvres, desserts and refreshments.

5. Kids' Dog Show
Feb. 5 • Beverly Hills
Birmingham Youth Assistance will hold its 40th annual Kids’ Dog Show from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday at Berkshire Middle School, 21707 W. 14 Mile Road in Beverly Hills. Children ages 4-14 can enter their furry companions into five competitions: Best Costume (dog and child), Best Trick, Waggiest Tail, Best Looking and Musical Sit (like musical chairs, but for dogs). Each dog entered costs $15, which includes admission for the whole family and a dog goodie bag. Participants must register at birminghamyouthassistance.org/kids-dog-show by Friday.
