CENTER LINE/WARREN/STERLING HEIGHTS —  As residents came out to the polls Nov. 8 on Election Day, one of their civic duties was to vote in local school board elections. In those races, it was the incumbents who garnered enough votes to be reelected to their Board of Education seats.

OAKLAND TOWNSHIP — Voters of Oakland Township passed the renewal of a township police millage Nov. 8. 

BLOOMFIELD TOWNSHIP — Voters in Bloomfield Township passed two millage proposals Nov. 8 — a millage renewal for the township’s safety path program and a millage renewal, with an increase, for senior services.

METRO DETROIT — As of the morning of Nov. 9, media reports declared incumbent Democratic Gov. Gretchen Whitmer as the winner in the gubernatorial race, defeating Republican challenger Tudor Dixon. In Macomb County alone, unofficial results of all precincts showed Whitmer getting 51.8% of the vote compared to Dixon’s 46.6%.

OAKLAND COUNTY — Five candidates were competing for three six-year terms on the Lamphere Board of Education in the general election Nov. 8.  Paul Cavanaugh came in first with 22.54% (2,367 votes), followed by Ryan McCann at 21.15% (2,221 votes) and Anthony Austin at 19.

HAZEL PARK — Six candidates were competing for three four-year terms on the Hazel Park Public Schools Board of Education in the general election Nov. 8.  The three winners were Beverly Hinton at 20% (2,682 votes), Monica Rattee at 18.64% (2,499 votes), and Deborah Laframboise at 17.

OAKLAND COUNTY — According to unofficial results the morning of Nov. 8, with 99% of precincts reporting in Oakland County, Democrat Haley Stevens has won the race for the newly redrawn 11th District of the U.S. House of Representatives.

OAKLAND COUNTY — Gary McGillivray secured another term representing the 3rd District on the Oakland County Board of Commissioners Nov. 8. McGillivray received 60.42% (16,738 votes), while his Republican opponent Ronald Dwyer took 39.47% (10,934 votes). There were 30 unassigned write-ins.

METRO DETROIT — According to unofficial results the morning of Nov. 8, with 100% of precincts reporting in both Oakland and Macomb counties, Republican Thomas Kuhn has prevailed in his bid for the 57th District of the Michigan House of Representatives.

KEEGO HARBOR — After 12 years on Keego Harbor’s City Council, Mayor John Fletcher made a decision not to run for another term.

OAKLAND TOWNSHIP — Residents of Oakland Township will vote on the renewal of a township police millage Nov. 8.

GROSSE POINTE PARK — In the final regular Grosse Pointe Park City Council meeting before the Nov. 8 election, officials once again clashed over a proposed water and sewer infrastructure millage in front of voters.

ROYAL OAK — On Nov. 8, Royal Oak voters will have to vote yes or no on three millage proposals.

FARMINGTON — Voters within the Farmington Public Schools district will be asked to reinstate the district’s non-homestead millage this November in order for it to receive its full per-pupil annual allowance.

HARRISON TOWNSHIP — This November, Harrison Township Public Library officials are asking voters to renew an existing millage with an increase to pay for expanded services.

KEEGO HARBOR/WALLED LAKE — Aside from proposals at the state and county levels, Keego Harbor and Walled Lake Consolidated Schools residents have matters that are even closer to home to consider when mulling over the Nov. 8 general election ballot.

METRO DETROIT — In the midst of a heightened political atmosphere, pro-life advocates across the country gathered for the ninth National Day of Remembrance, which they said is a way to memorialize the lives lost to abortion.

In the Southfield Sun’s coverage area, voters will choose candidates for their local school board, as well as governor and more Nov. 8.

In Novi, voters on Nov. 8 will elect candidates for local, state and federal offices.
