EASTPOINTE — John F. Kennedy Memorial Park will be “Rockin’” Aug. 2.

This coming Tuesday, two different events will take place at the park, which is located at 24517 Schroeder Ave.

The fun will begin at 5 p.m. with the Recreation Authority of Roseville & Eastpointe’s Rockin’ Summer Night. The event will last until 9 p.m., and will be held rain or shine.

The event used to be called “Sizzlin’ Summer Nights,” but due to COVID-19, it was canceled the past two summers. It’s back this year under a new name, and there is no fee to attend. The event is presented by Motor City Pawn Brokers.

“It’s our biggest event of the year. Anybody can come. It’s a thank-you to the community for supporting the recreational authority,” RARE Assistant Director Sara Frederick said. “It’s an event we do to give back to the community and have a fun night for the family.”

Bring your dancing shoes, because Rockin’ Summer Night will include a live concert at 7 p.m. with Mainstreet Soul, described on its Facebook page as “Michigan’s Premiere Motown and dance band experience bringing you the very best of rock, pop and soul.” Attendees are encouraged to bring their own lawn chairs.

Along with the live music, several food vendors will set up shop. There will be a kids area with games, and local businesses and food vendors will be on-site. Those 21 and older who are in the mood for spirits might want to walk over to the beer and wine section that the Eastpointe Lions Club will have under a pavilion.

In conjunction with Rockin’ Summer Night Aug. 2, the Eastpointe Police and Fire departments will hold their National Night Out at the park. The event is a chance for police officers and firefighters to connect with members of the community.

The Police Department has a K-9 demonstration scheduled for 5:30 p.m. During the event, residents can learn more about the SWAT team and check out police vehicles, motorcycles and bicycles on display.

At 6 p.m., members of the Eastpointe Fire Department will host and participate in a vehicle extrication demonstration. There will be a firetruck on display and a free smoke alarm giveaway.

“The Recreation Authority hosts the Rockin’ Summer Night event, along with the Eastpointe-Roseville Chamber of Commerce, to thank the residents of both communities for supporting the Recreation Authority,” RARE Executive Director Tony Lipinski said. “There is no cost to attend. The event will have plenty of activities for all ages. The Eastpointe Police and Fire Departments will provide plenty of safety advice, also. Our band this year, Mainstreet Soul, is an award-winning group that is sure to provide plenty of energy that you won’t want to miss.”
