ROSEVILLE — Members of the Roseville Community Schools family are mourning the loss of retired Superintendent John Kment.

C & G Newspapers received a text message the evening of Nov. 5 with the news that Kment died Nov. 2 at the age of 76.

Kment was an educator in the district for 51 years, and he served for 31 years as superintendent.

He left such an impression on the community that in 2009 the new Kment Elementary School, located at 20033 Washington St., was named after him.

According to the website legacy.com, Kment is survived by his wife Julie (née Santoni) of 54 years, six children and 11 grandchildren.

The obituary states he began teaching in 1968. During his tenure, he was an assistant principal and athletic director of Brablec High School, and eventually he became Roseville High School principal and then district superintendent. He also worked as an adult education and community education director and served on many educational committees statewide.

Visitation will be held at A. H. Peters Funeral Home, 32000 Schoenherr Road in Warren, from 2 to 8 p.m. Nov. 6 with a rosary currently pending the finalized time.

Kment will lie in state at 9:30 a.m. Nov. 7 at St. Veronica Catholic Church, 21440 Universal Ave. in Eastpointe, with a funeral Mass at 10 a.m. Interment will be at Resurrection Cemetery in Clinton Township.
