ST. CLAIR SHORES — According to a press release by the St. Clair Shores Police Department, officers investigated a carjacking report at 12:49 p.m. on Nov. 16.
Officers met with the victim whose vehicle was allegedly taken by force. Investigators followed up with leads and on Nov. 21, the vehicle was located and found to be occupied in the city of Detroit. Officers from St. Clair Shores and the Detroit Police Department worked together to attempt a traffic stop.
The occupant reportedly fled the vehicle and after a pursuit spanning from Wayne County to Macomb County, and the suspect was taken into custody in Detroit.
According to the press release, the Macomb County Prosecutor’s Office issued a two-count arrest warrant for John Jonathon Gause. Gause was arraigned by Judge Joseph Craigen Oster of the 40th District Court on one count of felony carjacking and one count of attempted retail fraud, a misdemeanor. Oster issued a $75,000 cash or surety bond, the press release said.
Gause’s attorney said in a text message that he did not have any comment at this time.
“St. Clair Shores Police Department would like to express its gratitude to Eastpointe Police Department, Detroit Police Department and other area departments that assisted and played an instrumental role in the investigation and apprehension of John Gause,” according to the press release.
