OAKLAND COUNTY/WAYNE COUNTY — In the primary election Aug. 2, Mike McFall, the mayor pro tem of Hazel Park, secured the Democratic nomination for the newly redrawn 8th District of the State House of Representatives. He defeated Madison Heights City Councilman David Soltis, Durrel Douglas, Ernest Little and Ryan Nelson.

BLOOMFIELD TOWNSHIP —  A public safety millage renewal in Bloomfield Township, which also includes a millage increase, got the green light from voters Aug. 2.

METRO DETROIT — On the night of the Aug. 2 primary election, before the final results were tallied, Andy Levin conceded defeat to Haley Stevens. Her victory was confirmed the following day.

OAKLAND COUNTY — A new Oakland County Land Bank was approved by the county’s Board of Commissioners at its June 23 meeting.

BIRMINGHAM — In pursuit of a safer community for pedestrians, the city of Birmingham plans to install a pedestrian crosswalk at Woodward Avenue, connecting the south side of Brown Street to the south side of Forest Avenue.

OAKLAND COUNTY — On June 22, Oakland County and school officials announced the Oakland County Schools Mental Health Grant Program, which will automatically distribute $175,000 to each school district in the county to address students’ mental health needs.
