NOVI — People’s Express, which on July 1 took over in Novi as the provider of curb-to-curb transit services, will be housed at the Novi Civic Center until the end of the year as part of an agreement with the city.

CLAWSON — The city of Clawson has received grant funding in the amount of $30,000 from Oakland Livingston Human Service Agency to provide lawn cutting and snowplowing services to seniors and people with disabilities.

NOVI — A heat wave nearly caused the cancellation of the annual Alzheimer’s disease Longest Day Walk June 20 at Rose Senior Living in Novi. However, thanks to the determination of Director of Life Enrichment Monique Furniss and her staff, the event was quickly rebranded to include a variety of indoor activities that gave residents and guests a better understanding of what it is like to have the disease.

TROY — The Friends of Troy Seniors’ annual Used Jewelry and Purse Sale attracted over 100 shoppers to support seniors June 13.

GROSSE POINTE FARMS — Kids and seniors bonded over the universal thrill of yelling “bingo” and picking out prizes June 6 at The Helm at the Boll Life Center in Grosse Pointe Farms.

WARREN — Nearly 50 area seniors gathered for a visit to the Detroit Institute of Arts on May 30 and enjoyed a Motown concert followed by a self-guided tour of the museum. The free event was hosted by the Warren Civic Center Library and sponsored by the DIA.

ROYAL OAK — “One kind word can change a life,” was the inspiration behind the colorful rock garden now located at Oak Ridge Elementary School on 13 Mile Road. The garden was created by both Oak Ridge Elementary students and Waltonwood senior residents.

NOVI — In a turn of events, the Novi City Council reconsidered its previous decision and unanimously voted to fully subsidize the costs of People’s Express transportation services for older adults and people with disabilities during its regular meeting May 6.
