TROY — Brian Zawislak, the assistant principal of Troy High School, has been named Michigan’s 2023 Assistant Principal of the Year by the Michigan Association of Secondary School Principals and the Michigan Association of Student Councils and Honor Societies.

MACOMB TOWNSHIP — There is no understating the achievement of becoming an Eagle Scout in the Boy Scouts of America.

FRASER — Students in Fraser Public Schools recently returned to classes and were greeted by four new principals and assistant principals who are helping lead the district.

BERKLEY — Rogers Elementary School has been in session for a few weeks now, and its new principal feels right at home.

FERNDALE — Ferndale Public Schools is several months into the construction of its new K-2 elementary school, and the district believes that it is on track to complete the project on time.

BIRMINGHAM — During the pandemic, Quarton Elementary School found that some students, parents and staff missed out on the community-building aspects of education.

UTICA — Three Utica Community Schools buildings will celebrate their 50th birthdays and welcome back former staff and students next month.

FARMINGTON — Farmington Public Schools is undergoing a major change in its administration. Longtime administrator Kathy Smith, the assistant superintendent of talent development, retired Sept. 9 after 33 1/2 years with the district.

OAKLAND COUNTY — Oakland Community College in Farmington Hills, along with the other 27 community colleges in Michigan, was recently “strengthened,” thanks to a $750,000 grant awarded to the Michigan Community College Association from the Kresge Foundation’s Education Program.

ROSEVILLE — A Roseville Middle School student who spent several months in the hospital after being hit by a car while walking to school in April has returned home.

ROSEVILLE — In 1946, a group of graduates who went through the Roseville Community Schools system got together for a class reunion.

MADISON HEIGHTS — Three trustees have resigned from the Madison District Public Schools Board of Education, citing compatibility issues with the rest of the board, and unease over social media discourse around a previous superintendent.

NOVI — Select members of the Novi Community School District kicked off the school year by participating in a roundtable discussion on pertinent issues in public education with Gov. Gretchen Whitmer at Novi High School Aug. 24.

NOVI — The staff at Novi Meadows Elementary School, on Taft Road, south of 11 Mile Road, commemorated the construction of their very own building by autographing a beam Aug. 30 that will be used as part of the foundational structure above the office of the new school building.

TROY — Over the summer, 12 Troy High School students traveled to Europe to take part in an international leadership summit in Berlin to learn to work together, listen to those with different perspectives and solve problems.

EASTPOINTE — The 2022-23 school year for one Eastpointe Community Schools elementary school began with a donation from AT&T Michigan Pioneers.

HAZEL PARK — A series of signposts featuring pages from a children’s book are now on display at United Oaks Elementary School — a way to enjoy a story while going for a stroll. And in the spring, a grant-funded sensory garden will be added, as well.

CLINTON TOWNSHIP —  The Clintondale Community Schools Board of Education unanimously renewed Superintendent Rodriguez Broadnax’s contract at its July 25 meeting.

FERNDALE — The new school year in Ferndale will be coinciding with the tenure of a new high school principal.
