GROSSE POINTE SHORES — Echoing a sentiment likely held by other financial professionals, Grosse Pointe Shores Mayor Ted Kedzierski — a certified public accountant and attorney — declared, “It’s always the highlight of the year,” when the city’s auditors appeared in front of the Shores City Council Jan. 17.

GROSSE POINTE SHORES — After relying entirely on volunteer labor until this point, communications might be becoming a budgeted expenditure in the future in Grosse Pointe Shores.

BIRMINGHAM — Since there may be a sense of concern among residents about how their local government has prepared for the possibility of a train derailment following a recent incident in East Palestine, Ohio, the Birmingham Fire Department has expressed confidence in their abilities to handle train emergencies.

MADISON HEIGHTS — The new children’s room at the library, the Monroe Park pavilion and Ambassador Park itself are set to be renamed, each in honor of a different person who helped shape the city of Madison Heights.

CLINTON TOWNSHIP — The Clinton Township Board of Trustees joined many Macomb County communities on Feb. 27 by adopting a new animal control ordinance in line with the county’s standards, practices and recommendations.

STERLING HEIGHTS — The city expects to have trash removal on its agenda this spring as it plans to weigh contract bids for a new city waste hauling contract.

UTICA — The city of Utica recently received a $2.5 million Michigan Enhancement Grant from the state of Michigan, with the assistance of former state Rep. Diana Farrington, to help the city with some projects.

NOVI — “Novi is simply the best,” declared Mayor Bob Gatt over a half gallon of Guernsey ice cream in a video skit shown at the Suburban Collection Showplace during the annual State of the City address. The statement became the theme for the address.

ROYAL OAK — Amid resident outcry, Royal Oak is looking to make changes to its parking system in the downtown.

MACOMB TOWNSHIP — Zoning once again was the talk of the Macomb Township Board of Trustees meeting Feb. 22, with trustees approving a planned unit development along 24 Mile Road.

EASTPOINTE — Macomb County Public  Works has begun an underground infrastructure project in Eastpointe aimed at reducing combined sewer overflows into Lake St. Clair.

EASTPOINTE — Residents, local dignitaries and business owners gathered March 2 at the Lutheran Fraternities of America No. 57 for Eastpointe’s annual State of the City address.

ST. CLAIR SHORES — After a heated discussion, council members voted 5-2 on Feb. 21 to demolish the water tower that sits on the grounds of the St Clair Shores Golf Club.

MOUNT CLEMENS — The Mount Clemens City Commission had a light and quick meeting on Feb. 21, tackling two separate monetary items in under 20 minutes.

HARRISON TOWNSHIP — Water was the main topic of the evening at the Feb. 27 Harrison Township Board of Trustees meeting, notably featuring the approval of a $31,000 sanitary sewer infrastructure, pump station and meter study for Selfridge Air National Guard Base.

MOUNT CLEMENS — Anyone who has seen a Mount Clemens City Commission meeting in the past year knows who Erik Rick is. Introducing himself by his name and address, he has made good use of his allocated public comment minutes to speak on a variety of city issues.

NOVI — The Novi City Council unanimously voted to renew its contract with RNA Facilities Management of Ann Arbor during its Jan. 23 meeting.   

BIRMINGHAM — Before the regular Birmingham City Commission meeting Feb. 13, an official City Commission workshop meeting was held to discuss current marijuana laws.

OAKLAND TOWNSHIP — Former Oakland Township Trustee Dave Mabry has been appointed by the Oakland Township Board of Trustees to serve as the township’s new clerk.

MADISON HEIGHTS — At a workshop by the Madison Heights Planning Commission Feb. 6, the citizen-led board discussed possible revisions to the city’s zoning ordinance.
