GROSSE POINTE SHORES — After hearing from impassioned residents on both sides of the debate, the Grosse Pointe Shores City Council is expected to vote on a proposal that would ban residents from owning pit bulls during its next regular meeting at 7 p.m. Sept. 19 at City Hall.

GROSSE POINTE FARMS — Grosse Pointe Farms residents, business owners, landlords and others with an interest in the community will have roughly the next two months to provide feedback on a draft of the city’s forthcoming revised master plan.

GROSSE POINTE PARK — With a contested City Council and mayoral race coming up in November, Grosse Pointe Park is once again in need of a city clerk to run those contests.

TROY — On Aug. 31, the city of Troy received a demolition permit for the former Kmart headquarters property that has long sat unused near Big Beaver Road and Coolidge Highway.

HARRISON TOWNSHIP — Five marijuana businesses in Harrison Township were brought before the Board of Trustees on Aug. 28, each one appealing various hurdles that would jeopardize their ability to renew operating licenses.

ROYAL OAK — The city of Royal Oak announced that City Commissioner Patricia Paruch died Aug. 22 in her home. She was 72.

WARREN — Incumbent City Councilman Eddie Kabacinski filed a lawsuit in Macomb County Circuit Court on Aug. 18 against three candidates, the Warren Election Commission and the Warren city clerk for allowing those candidates on this year’s primary election ballot.

WARREN — A requested recount of some precincts from Warren’s at-large City Council primary election happened on Aug. 30 but yielded no change in the results.

MOUNT CLEMENS — Water customers on the Mount Clemens system can expect their rates to go up soon as the City Commission approved a slate of rate increases at its Aug. 21 meeting.

METRO DETROIT — When the American Rescue Plan Act of 2021 was signed into law on March 11, 2021, the federal government agreed to distribute $195.3 billion to state governments and the District of Columbia to give local communities aid in recovering from the economic impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.

ROYAL OAK — Due to a cancer diagnosis earlier this year, Royal Oak City Commissioner Patricia Paruch announced she will be stepping away from the commission and entering hospice care.

BLOOMFIELD TOWNSHIP — Brian Kepes, the treasurer for the Bloomfield Township Board of Trustees, has stepped down from his position.

HARRISON TOWNSHIP — The Harrison Township Board of Trustees met on Aug. 14 as a smaller board than usual handling a number of items related to people and equipment of the township. 

CLINTON TOWNSHIP — Two routine committee appointments may turn out more critical to the future of said committees after comments made at the Aug. 14 Board of Trustees meeting.

MACOMB TOWNSHIP — It was a short session for the Macomb Township Board of Trustees on Aug. 9, with the board mostly focusing on housekeeping items and formalities.

STERLING HEIGHTS — The process of defining Sterling Heights’ vision for the next 17 years or so is currently in motion.

OAKLAND COUNTY — Oakland County Clerk/Register of Deeds Lisa Brown is alerting people about misleading mailings received by residents under the guise of representing Oakland County and tax collection offices, according to a press release.

EASTPOINTE — The Michigan Association of Planning recently recognized the city of Eastpointe and planning firm McKenna for a project that the association said is a “best practice.”

ROCHESTER — Residents who can’t attend Rochester City Council meetings in person will continue to be able to share their comments via Zoom.

MACOMB TOWNSHIP — Macomb Township trustees held the floor for over an hour during their second bimonthly meeting on July 26, discussing a variety of items pertaining to future developments and plans for the township.
