CLINTON TOWNSHIP — The topic of elections was high on the minds of Clinton Township trustees in early October, especially with the Board of Trustees voting to buy new election software and equipment at its Oct. 2 meeting.

GROSSE POINTE PARK — With the Nov. 7 general election fast approaching, Grosse Pointe Park is getting a new city clerk just in time.

BERKLEY — An ordinance to ban the sale of dogs, cats and rabbits in Berkley was passed by the City Council. Approved at its Sept. 18 meeting, the law prohibits a retail pet store in Berkley from selling and adopting dogs, cats and rabbits. 

BLOOMFIELD TOWNSHIP — The Bloomfield Township Board of Trustees has selected Chris Kolinski as its new trustee.

WARREN — On Sept. 21, the Warren City Council announced that its forensic audit report indicated Warren Mayor James Fouts allegedly violated legal spending limits through the city’s Downtown Development Authority by $460,037.58 in the fiscal year 2021-2022.

EASTPOINTE — Two years ago, in 2021, the city of Eastpointe began a citywide sanitary sewer cleaning and television investigation program that would take two and a half years to complete.

MOUNT CLEMENS — City commissioners took a step toward keeping downtown Mount Clemens clean at their Sept. 18 meeting by setting a date for a downtown maintenance program public hearing.

HARRISON TOWNSHIP — A public hearing for road improvement projects on Cortez Street, Santose Street and Carno Circle was held at the Sept. 25 Harrison Township Board of Trustees meeting.

EASTPOINTE — A significant episode in a long line of controversies involving the current mayor of Eastpointe is drawing to an end.

ROCHESTER — It’s still up to Rochester residents to decide if they want to water their lawns during peak demand hours, a choice that will likely hike up their water bills.

ROCHESTER HILLS — With singers, dancers, fire breathers, and even a 15-foot python in tow, Rochester Hills Mayor Bryan Barnett delivered his 2023 State of the City address to a packed crowd at Oakland University Aug. 31.

MOUNT CLEMENS — The Cairns Community Center has seen a great amount of activity since the city took over its lease, but an upcoming state grant could make substantial change for the facility.

METRO DETROIT — State cannabis sales reached a record high in July of more than $276 million for adult recreational and medical use, according to the Michigan Cannabis Regulatory Agency. The state is expected to cross $3 billion in revenue for the first time this year and is projected to become the nation’s second largest market behind California.

ST. CLAIR SHORES — Last month, the St. Clair Shores City Council voted 5-2 to approve a special land use and site plan for a 40-unit multistory family complex on Jefferson Avenue south of Stephens Street.

WARREN — On Sept. 5, Macomb County Circuit Court Judge James M. Biernat Jr. resolved and closed the case Warren City Councilman Eddie Kabacinski filed against fellow candidates and election officials after the primary election last month.

WARREN — Lawyers for Warren Mayor Jim Fouts vow to appeal a ruling by a federal judge who dismissed a lawsuit alleging the mayor’s civil rights were violated when he was removed from the ballot of this year’s primary election.

STERLING HEIGHTS — Sterling Heights is setting some new, concrete rules for the paving of front yards and residential driveways, though the regulations are more lenient than proposed ones that were rejected earlier this year.

EASTPOINTE — The Aug. 24 Eastpointe-Roseville Chamber of Commerce coffee hour gave State Rep. Kimberly Edwards, D-Eastpointe, the opportunity to share news from the state level.

MACOMB TOWNSHIP — A proposed conditional rezoning of a plot in the southeastern part of Macomb Township failed to find any support at the Aug. 23 Board of Trustees meeting.

CLINTON TOWNSHIP — Legislative business in Clinton Township has come to a standstill as two consecutive Board of Trustees meetings, a special meeting on Aug. 21 and a regular meeting on Aug. 28, have failed to reach a quorum.
