GROSSE POINTES — After months of negotiation, the Grosse Pointe Board of Education reached a contract deal with the Grosse Pointe Education Association — the union that represents Grosse Pointe Public School System teachers — just before students returned to the classroom after Labor Day.

FERNDALE — Danny’s Irish Pub lived to see another day. At a Ferndale City Council meeting on Aug. 26, the council moved to deny the transfer of a Class C liquor license for Miracle Mound LLC to the site of Danny’s Irish Pub, located at 22824 Woodward Ave.

FERNDALE — Family, friends and a community are mourning after a student from University High School was killed in a shooting at the Michigan State Fair. Darean Davis, of Detroit, was shot in the parking lot outside the fair in Novi Aug. 31. He was 14.

MACOMB TOWNSHIP — A walk down the street is a trip. Walking across the state is a statement.

WARREN — Former Warren Mayor James Fouts filed an appeal with the U.S. Supreme Court in August to hear the case against the Warren City Council that denied him from being on the ballot and running for an unprecedented fifth term.

WEST BLOOMFIELD — An armed robbery suspect is on the loose after stealing a large sum of cash, according to a press release from the West Bloomfield Police Department.

EASTPOINTE — The plans for a new Sheetz gas station and cafe in Eastpointe are moving forward despite concerns from both residents and the City Council.

HAZEL PARK — The Hazel Park City Council is on the cusp of passing an ordinance that will prohibit pet shops in the city from selling dogs, cats and other animals. Pet shops will instead be encouraged to work with rescues and shelters to showcase and adopt out pets on a nonprofit basis.

MOUNT CLEMENS — The City of Mount Clemens announced on Aug. 21 that it would request the Department of Housing and Urban Development to release $3.5 million dollars allocated to pay for a portion of the Cherry Street Mall project.

NOVI — Police said that a 26-year-old Novi man died from a self-inflicted gunshot following a standoff Sept. 4. 

WEST BLOOMFIELD — According to a press release from the West Bloomfield Police Department, at around 8:40 p.m. Sept. 4, dispatchers received a 911 call from an employee at the Twin Beach Market, located at 4292 Green Lake Road, with a report of a lone adult female entering the store with a pistol and robbing him for cash.

CLINTON TOWNSHIP — All that’s left of the Goo Smoke Shop is rubble and twisted metal. This was the backdrop for the Environmental Protection Agency as it held a press conference on Aug. 27.

NOVI — Chaos erupted at the Michigan State Fair in Novi during the late evening Aug. 31 as a shooting in the parking lot left a 14-year-old dead and another 14-year-old injured.
