Furniture chain raising funds for The Arc of Oakland County

OAKLAND COUNTY — Gorman’s Home Furnishings and Interior Design announced on Dec. 17 that they will host their 15th annual Charity Recliner Promotion to help make a difference in the lives of afflicted individuals with an intellectual or developmental disability.

Known as the Lifeline of Hope program, customers can participate in this community-giving program by visiting any of Gorman’s four southeast Michigan showrooms through Jan. 15, 2024, and making a minimum donation of $50 to The Arc of Oakland County. Customers then will receive an extra $200 off the price of any leather recliner from Gorman’s 10 Best Brands or up to $400 off Stressless recliners.

The Arc is the largest national community-based organization advocating for and serving people with intellectual and developmental disabilities and their families. For more than 60 years, The Arc has been aiding those diagnosed with autism, Down syndrome, Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder, and a range of diagnoses across the spectrum of intellectual and developmental disabilities.

“The Arc of Oakland County works tirelessly to improve the systems of support and services to improve the future of children and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities throughout the year,” John Moray, CEO of Gorman’s, said in a press release. “Programs such as a ‘Lifeline of Hope’ are an important part of sustaining these programs and developing new ways to support community members.”

The Arc estimates that between 7 and 8 million Americans have an intellectual or developmental disability.
