EASTPOINTE — An Eastpointe man who police said escaped while being transported hours after his arraignment in the 38th District Court has been apprehended.
At approximately 10:22 p.m. Aug. 1, Devonta Deshawn Moore reportedly escaped from police custody during transport. He was being held for domestic violence/domestic assault and fleeing and eluding charges, according to a press release from the Eastpointe Police Department.
Moore, restrained with belly chains, was in the process of being loaded into a prisoner transport van when he fled on foot, police said.
According to the department, he has a history of assaultive behavior and fleeing from the police.
He was apprehended at approximately 7 p.m. Aug. 4 after Eastpointe police detectives tracked him to eastbound Interstate 96, near Brighton. Michigan State Police and the Livingston County Sheriff’s Office assisted in a traffic stop that led to his arrest.
Two family members, whom police identified as Lashaun White and Tamika Shepherd, were also arrested. All three were arraigned Aug. 5.
Moore, 18, is additionally facing charges of escape while awaiting trial for a felony and resisting or obstructing police officers and is now being held on a $100,000 cash/surety bond. In addition, from other incidents, he is facing charges including fighting on school property, breaking and entering, possessing a weapon on school grounds, carrying a concealed weapon, purchasing or consuming alcohol under-age and domestic violence.
Shepherd, 46, is being charged with being an accessory after the fact and is being held on a $50,000 bond, while White, 25, is facing the same charge and being held on a $10,000 bond.
Moore is scheduled to appear for a probable cause conference at 1 p.m. Aug. 16 in front of 38th District Court Judge Kathleen Galen in Eastpointe. At press time, White and Shepherd didn’t have any hearings scheduled. None of the defendants had attorneys listed.
