ST. CLAIR SHORES — Apple Pie Week has taken place for a very long time, and it’s enjoyed by everyone, including Senior Activity Center members and staff.

FARMINGTON — Over the course of the next five years or so, the grounds of the Governor Warner Mansion may undergo some major changes.

MADISON HEIGHTS — Two events, each run by a volunteer board, will take place this month in Madison Heights, promising free fun for the whole family.

ROCHESTER — Families and friends can enjoy a weekend of fun for all ages during Paint Creek Center for the Arts’ annual Art and Apples Festival.

GROSSE POINTE CITY — Village visitors will be able to “fall” for art this September, as autumn starts on a bright note in the Grosse Pointe City business district.

SHELBY TOWNSHIP — The Packard Proving Grounds Historic Site will be hosting a Rosie the Riveter Memorial Garden luncheon Sept. 22 and honoring Rosie the Riveters who contributed so much to America’s war efforts during World War II.

EASTPOINTE — Under a trellis supporting different beans and other vegetables, Bill Randazzo picked a pepper, worried about it turning too red.

ROYAL OAK — Arts, Beats & Eats has kicked off the annual Labor Day weekend, and the party has just gotten started. 

NOVI — Kwame Kilpatrick, the former mayor of Detroit who was elected as a Democrat and convicted in 2013 of embezzling thousands of dollars from the city during his tenure as mayor, was a featured speaker at the Oakland County Republican Party’s annual Lincoln Day Dinner at the Suburban Collection Showplace in Novi Aug. 21.

NORTHERN MICHIGAN — The Leelanau Peninsula gets a lot of attention in the fall. When the woodsy hills explode in fiery shades of red, orange and yellow, M-22 becomes a river of cars, campers and RVs.

NOVI — The annual Michigan State Fair rolls into the Suburban Collection Showplace in Novi Aug. 29 through Sept. 2, and with it a logrolling show and several familiar attractions, including the Shrine Circus.

ST. CLAIR SHORES — Get ready for stunning displays and a taste of the Halloween spirit at this year’s Halloween Tour.

DETROIT — Lifelong jazz aficionados and those who want to experience the music for the first time will bop shoulder to shoulder when the 45th annual Detroit Jazz Festival takes over downtown Detroit on Labor Day weekend, from Aug. 30 to Sept. 2.

GROSSE POINTE WOODS — It’s an artform that was introduced in Japan circa the early seventh century, but Grosse Pointe Shores artist Nobuko Yamasaki manages to make woodblock printmaking look fresh by adding her own spin on it.

GROSSE POINTES — Visitors to and residents of the Grosse Pointes this summer have been able to go on a global excursion without ever leaving the east side.

FRANKLIN — Although summer is coming to a close, the fun continues in Franklin with its 79th annual Labor Day Round Up.
