FRASER — A 32-year-old Detroit man, identified by police as Jeffery Edward Clark, has been charged in connection to a murder that took place in Fraser in the early hours of July 4.
Fraser Department of Public Safety officers were dispatched to a parking lot in the area of Joy Street and Franklin Street, south of 13 Mile Road and east of Utica Road, on a report of gunshots. Upon arrival, they discovered a 28-year-old Clinton Township man on the ground who had been shot several times. The gunshot victim was rushed to a nearby hospital, but he was pronounced deceased after he arrived.
“Detectives were called in to investigate and spoke to witnesses in the area that heard the victim and suspect arguing in the parking lot, and the victim pleading with the suspect to not shoot him,” said Sgt. Ben Hoppe, of the Fraser Department of Public Safety. “Detectives followed leads and found camera footage from a nearby gas station with the suspect on camera shortly before the shooting. With the assistance of the Roseville Police Department, detectives were able to link a shooting in Roseville to this homicide investigation.”
The Roseville shooting led detectives to speak to a 28-year-old woman living in Eastpointe, identified as Tamara Scott. After a search warrant was executed for her residence, investigators were led to the suspected shooter, Clark. They executed another search warrant on Clark’s home in Detroit and said they arrested Clark as he attempted to escape out a rear window.
“Detectives identified and seized a firearm and clothing that are suspected to be used by Clark in the homicide in Fraser,” said Hoppe.
Clark has been charged with one count of first-degree murder and one felony weapons charge. He was denied bond. His next court date is a probable cause conference scheduled for 8:30 a.m. on Aug. 17.
Scott was charged with one count of accessory after the fact to a felony. Her bond was set at $2,000, and her next court date is a probable cause conference scheduled for 8:30 a.m. on Aug. 17.
Both cases are being heard in the 39th District Court.
“Special thanks to the Roseville Police Department, Eastpointe Police Department, Detroit Police Department and SERESA dispatch for all of their assistance in the identification and apprehension of the named suspects,” Hoppe said in an email.
Clark’s attorney, Steven Scharg, did not respond to requests for comment.
Scott’s attorney, Adam Clements, also did not respond to requests for comment.
