MACOMB COUNTY — The Macomb County Quilt Guild has announced that it will be hosting its annual quilt show this year after a multiyear hiatus due to COVID-19.
The show will be held from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. April 12 and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. April 13 at the Chesterfield Community Center, a new location this year.
The event will feature quilts, door prizes, vendors, raffles, viewers choice ribbons and a table runner raffle.
Kathy Stevens, the past president of the Macomb County Quilt Guild and the quilt show co-chair, said the guild members are very excited about the show’s return.
“Our 2020 show was canceled due to COVID, so this is our first show since, thus the theme of Treasured Quilts. Many quilters spent COVID time sewing and being creative. Our show is a great opportunity for our guild members to display their works and for the community to see what we have made and learn a little about quilting,” she said.
She said the quilt show is an opportunity to see and shop local vendors under one roof.
“It is a chance to see beautiful quilts made by our local community members and to showcase their talents. It is a way to get inspired to be creative. Quilting is something that people of all ages can do. It is a great opportunity to get together with friends for a unique show in our community,” she said.
The membership is made up of quilters of all ages and skill levels.
“We meet once a month from September to June. Our website, macombcountyquiltguild.org, has information about our guild and membership,” she said.
Terri Brown, quilt show co-chair, said those who are interested in entering the quilt show can fill out a form on the website. Entry forms are due March 21.
“This is our biggest fundraiser and it’s to promote quilting,” Brown said. “We’re just hoping for a lot of attendees and hopefully a lot interest in becoming new members and learning how to quilt, or if they already quilt, just to learn a lot of new techniques,” she said.
She said they also do a lot of projects that serve the community, such as making quilts for groups like Turning Point.
Those who are interested in joining the membership can pay $30 for the year, September through August. Membership in the guild is open to all who have an interest in quilting. The membership includes beginners to advanced quilters. The monthly meetings provide an opportunity for everybody to spend time with other quilters, listening to speakers, learning new techniques and having fun. Each meeting includes a show-and-tell time where members and guests present their recent quilts.
Guests are allowed to attend general membership meetings but pay a guest fee of $5 per meeting. If the meeting features a nationally known speaker, then the guest fee is $10. If the guest decides to become a member at the meeting, the guest shall pay an additional $25 to equal membership dues for the year.
Admission to the show will cost $6. Strollers are not allowed. The Chesterfield Community Center is located at 48400 Sugarbush Road. For more information, visit macombcountyquiltguild.org.
