1. Rockin’ the Shores
Sept. 17 • Nine Mile Road and Mack Avenue, St. Clair Shores
The Rockin' the Shores Beer & Music Festival will be held from 1 to 11 p.m. Saturday on Mack Avenue, across from Roy O’Brien Ford in St. Clair Shores. The headliner on the main stage will be 1990s multi-platinum act Vertical Horizon; another notable band will be local favorite Sponge, which is celebrating the 25th anniversary of its breakthrough album Rotting Piñata. Others scheduled to play are Rock and Roll Prep School, Vultures of Culture, Vulgara, 30 on 6 and Dude. A second stage in front of Firehouse Pub and Grill will feature Fever Sons, Mothers Butter, The Ruiners, The Orbitsuns, VISITOR and Eastside Still Alive. There will be multiple food trucks; a full bar with craft beer, Tito’s Handmade Vodka and Makers Mark; and the Faygo Fun Zone will have cornhole, Jenga and Connect 4. The event is all ages until 9 p.m. (21 and older after). There will be a $5 cover at 5 p.m., with free parking in nearby lots. 2. Birmingham Street Art Fair
Sept. 17-18 • Shain Park
The 48th Birmingham Street Art Fair will take place from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday in and around Shain Park, 270 W. Merrill St. One hundred juried artists are expcted. There will also be live music both days, along with food vendors and a children's activity area. The event is a benefit for Common Ground, a nonprofit which serves as a regional resource for youths, adults and families in crisis. 3. Troy Family Daze
Sept. 15-18 • Troy Civic Center
Troy Family Daze will run Sept. 15-18 at Troy Civic Center, 500 W. Big Beaver Road. Since 1968, the festival has prided itself on being 100% volunteer, with all proceeds being returned to the community through charitable grants. Featured events will include the opening ceremony and naturalization ceremony at 6 p.m. on Thursday; a performance by Air Margaritaville at 7 p.m. on Friday; programs by the Troy Nature Society, Troy Historic Village, Troy Public Library and Troy High School robotics team, as well as fireworks at 9:30 p.m., on Saturday; and a 5k run/walk and kids fun run, along with many performances as part of International Day, on Sunday. Recurring activities will include daily amusement rides, wrestling shows, voting for a cutest baby contest, Rosco the Clown, a caricature artist, Animal Oasis, the Amazing Clark Show and much more. 4. Harvest Moon Celebration
Sept. 15-17 • Riley Park, Farmington
Downtown Farmington's 17th annual Harvest Moon Celebration will come to the Sundquist Pavilion in Riley Park from 6 to 11 p.m. Sept. 15-17. Craft beer and wine, live music, and food will all be part of the festive fall event. In addition, dancing will be on the docket Friday, while farmers and artisans will sell their wares at the market on Saturday. Tickets cost $8 in advance and $10 at the door, or if you volunteer, admission will be free. For more information, click the event page on the city website.
5. Walk Against Hate
Sept. 18 • Southfield Civic Center
The Anti-Defamation League will host its Walk Against Hate at 10 a.m. Sunday starting at Southfield Civic Center, 26000 Evergreen Road. Registration will open at 9 a.m. There is no cost to participate, but those who donate or raise $50 or more will receive a T-shirt. The ADL, founded in 1913 to stop the defamation of Jewish people, bills itself as the world’s leading anti-hate organization aimed at stopping antisemitism, bias and bigotry of all kinds.
