1. Our Town Art Show and Sale
March 31-April 1 • Birmingham
Nearly 300 pieces from 125 artists will be on display during the 38th annual Our Town Art Show and Sale from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday and Saturday at The Community House, located at 380 S. Bates in Birmingham. The two-day event is free, but admission to the opening night party from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday costs $75. There will also be an online exhibit and sale from March 31 to April 14. The artists will earn 65% of the proceeds from sales, with the remaining 35% going toward The Community House’s outreach programs for children and adults. ‘Surreal’
An opening reception for the landscape exhibit "Surreal" will take place from 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday at Paint Creek Center for the Arts, located at 407 Pine St. in Rochester. Nearly 200 pieces were submitted for inclusion, but 66 from 49 artists were chosen, and will be on display April 2-29. Normal business hours are 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sundays, 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Mondays-Thursdays and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturdays; the PCCA is closed on Fridays. For more information, visit pccart.org.
Spring Fling
Artists, crafters and other vendors will sell their wares at the Spring Fling small business fair from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday and noon to 5 p.m. Sunday at Lakeside Mall, located at 14000 Lakeside Circle in Sterling Heights. 2. Antique Appraisal Day
April 2 • Rochester Hills
The Rochester-Avon Historical Society will host its 29th annual Antique Appraisal Day from noon to 4 p.m. Sunday at the Rochester Hills Museum at Van Hoosen Farm, located at 1005 Van Hoosen Road in Rochester. Participants can bring up to five items — or photos of large items — to have assessed for $5 each, with proceeds from the cash-only sales going toward the historical society's mission "to help preserve, collect and interpret the history of the greater Rochester area." Suggested items include cast iron toys, coins, pottery, china, collectables, furniture, guns, military items, antique weapons, dolls, teddy bears, engravings, art paintings in oil and prints, fine and costume jewelry, Eastern art, string instruments, and books. 4. Bourbon Fest
April 1 • Royal Oak
The Royal Oak Farmers Market, located at 316 E. 11 Mile Road, will host Bourbon Fest from 7 to 10 p.m. Saturday. Tickets cost $50 online and $60 at the gate, and include a souvenir tasting glass and 10 tasting tickets. For $100, VIPs can enter at 6 p.m. and receive 20 tasting tickets, among other perks. The indoor event will feature more than 200 whiskeys, as well as beer, wine and nonalcoholic options. There will also be food trucks, vendors, live music and the option to buy extra tasting tickets. Designated drivers can enter for $10 and drink coffee and water. Proceeds will benefit Friends of The River, a nonprofit working to improve water quality, access and awareness of Michigan rivers. 5. 'Red Hot Mamas'
March 31-April 2 • Grosse Pointe Park
Enjoy dinner and a show when “Red Hot Mamas" is staged all weekend at the Tompkins Community Center at Windmill Pointe Park, 14920 Windmill Pointe Drive in Grosse Pointe Park. The premise follows a middle-aged couple in a quandary when their senior mothers move in with them and ignore house rules, such as curfews.
