HAZEL PARK — A “road diet” installing bike lanes and other safety features along John R Road, from Hazelcrest Place to 10 Mile Road, is on track to finish this fall.

METRO DETROIT — During the primary election Aug. 6, two Democrats squared off to be their party’s candidate for a four-year term on the Oakland County Board of Commissioners serving District 3, which includes Madison Heights, Hazel Park and parts of Troy.

WEST BLOOMFIELD — According to a recent report, Michigan has some troubling statistics.

ROYAL OAK — Police took a 15-year-old suspect into custody Aug. 5 after an investigation into a break-in at Gatsby Cannabis Co., 5130 Meijer Drive, that resulted in the theft of a great deal of merchandise. 

METRO DETROIT — A recent 4-3 ruling by the Michigan Supreme Court affecting the state’s laws governing minimum wage and sick time is sending shockwaves through many businesses, including the restaurant industry.

SHELBY TOWNSHIP — Surrounded by local law enforcement and airing his intent to “back the blue,” Republican vice presidential candidate and U.S. Sen. JD Vance stopped by the Shelby Township Police Department Aug. 7 to pitch Republican presidential candidate Donald  Trump’s campaign platform on crime, immigration and more.

STERLING HEIGHTS — According to the Macomb County elections website, voter turnout in Sterling Heights precincts ranged from 8.02%-26.02%.

WEST BLOOMFIELD — At the primary election Aug. 6, residents in the greater West Bloomfield area had an opportunity to vote on elected races and a bond proposal.

GROSSE POINTES/HARPER WOODS — Voters in the Grosse Pointe Public School System district — which encompasses the five Grosse Pointes and part of Harper Woods — showed strong support for an operating millage that was on the Aug. 6 primary ballot.

GROSSE POINTE CITY — A millage that will enable Grosse Pointe City to take advantage of more than $22 million in federal funds for sewer and other infrastructure improvements was passed overwhelmingly by Aug. 6 primary voters.

BERKLEY — The state House representative from the city of Berkley will have a chance to continue serving in the Michigan Legislature.

ROYAL OAK — Following the Aug. 6 primary, incumbent Dave Woodward and Regina Wilk will be the Democrat and Republican candidates, respectively, for Oakland County Commissioner of the 1st District in the November election.

CLINTON TOWNSHIP — It was a late night for Clinton Township candidates in the Aug. 6 primary. The unofficial results from Macomb County Clerk’s office trickled in early the next morning.

ST. CLAIR SHORES — In unofficial results from the Aug. 6 election, St. Clair Shores voters passed a proposed roads and related infrastructure millage by a margin of 7,067 votes to 5,048.

MADISON HEIGHTS — A millage renewal proposal for the Madison District Public Schools was approved by voters during the primary election Aug. 6.

AUBURN HILLS/ROCHESTER HILLS/TROY/BLOOMFIELD TOWNSHIP — Voters in the Avondale School District hit the polls Aug. 6 to decide on a $150 million bond issue renewal, with the measure passing with over 65% of the vote, according to unofficial results from the Oakland County Elections Division.

TROY — Hirak Chanda retained his Troy City Council seat Aug. 6.

OAKLAND COUNTY — According to a press release from the Michigan Secretary of State’s Office, more than 1.2 million Michigan voters cast early or absentee ballots.

BLOOMFIELD TOWNSHIP — Primary election voters passed a millage renewal focused on public safety Aug. 6.

ROCHESTER/ROCHESTER HILLS/OAKLAND TOWNSHIP — Primary election voters in Rochester Hills have approved a millage hike to support the Rochester Hills Public Library.
