MACOMB COUNTY — As September rolls around, runners in Macomb County are gearing up for two events aimed at raising money for first responders, military personnel and their families on the anniversary of 9/11.

MACOMB COUNTY — For nearly 50 years, the Macomb County Sheriff’s Office Marine Sheriff Division has been served by a single boathouse at the eastern edge of Harrison Township. But on Tuesday, Aug. 30, county officials broke ground on a project to replace the aging facility with a brand-new headquarters for the Marine Division. 

WARREN — Two children were hospitalized, one with severe injuries, after being electrocuted by a live wire Aug. 30, according to Warren police.

ROSEVILLE — A Roseville man escaped a house fire without injuries Aug. 30 after his neighbors alerted him to the fire.

WARREN — A woman from Warren is facing charges following the death of a Detroit woman from a vehicular crash.

SOUTHFIELD — From art and cooking to gardening and exercise, a local nonprofit is trying to provide meaningful activities for those with intellectual and developmental disabilities, helping them to hone skills and nurture their creative side.

NOVI — The City Council voted 4-2 during its regular meeting Aug. 8 to approve a purchase agreement for lighting to be placed around the area of Nine Mile and Taft roads where a roundabout is under construction.

NOVI — The Novi City Council is considering naming Deputy Assessor Jan Ziozios as acting assessor and contracting with Oakland County for a short-term stopgap after the city’s former assessor, Micheal Lohmeier, left to take a new job with Oakland County.

TROY — The city of Troy recently purchased three parcels of land adjacent to Sylvan Glen Lake Park, on Rochester Road, which will be added to the park land.

TROY — The Troy Kiwanis Club is inviting those in the community to join them for a special program discussing the realities, warning signs and potential solutions to the threat of teen suicide on Thursday, Sept. 15.

TROY — The Troy Public Library is throwing down the gauntlet and challenging local youths to read 1,000 books before age 5.

METRO DETROIT — August is National Pediatric Immunization Month, and medical professionals are getting the word out about the importance of vaccinating children, particularly when they are very young.

WARREN — On the night before Ukrainian Independence Day, a crowd gathered in the parking lot of St. Josaphat Ukrainian Catholic Church in Warren. They sang Ukrainian songs and prayers, their faces illuminated by candlelight.

MACOMB TOWNSHIP — The Macomb Township Board of Trustees met for its first meeting of August on Wednesday, Aug. 10, voting on a variety of items including accepting a $50,400 hazard mitigation grant.
