ST. CLAIR SHORES — Former St. Clair Shores Lakeview High School volleyball star Allie Hill earned a Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference Rookie of the Week honor for her performances from Sept. 12 to Sept. 19.
The Westfield State University freshman averaged 16 digs over a four-game stretch while also tallying seven assists and six service aces.
“It was obviously really cool because I was a first year and I was playing, which was already cool in itself,” Hill said.
A highlighted performance from Hill included a win over Worcester State on Sept. 14, where she tallied 14 digs and four aces.
Hill, who currently ranks third in digs (183) and second in digs per set (4.16), has 19 aces and 23 assists from the libero position this season.
While her play on the court was impressive enough to attract colleges, Hill earned the Michigan Interscholastic Volleyball Coaches Association Individual Academic All-State for carrying a 3.7 or higher grade point average for the entirety of her high school career.
Hill is studying nursing at Westfield State, which played a key role in her decision to attend the university.
“A big reason that I came here is there’s already a couple nursing majors on my team,” Hill said. “They’ve really been helpful.”
Hill, in her own right, has been a significant addition to the Westfield State team.
The transition from Massachusetts to Michigan has been difficult, but Hill has continued to see or communicate with her family in any way she can.
“They watch the live streams of the games, and every time, I wave to them at the camera before I serve. They get all excited in the living room,” Hill said.
While Westfield State currently sits at 4-8 on the year, Hill will look to help her team succeed as they move forward.
“She’s doing a lot for us. She really took over the job,” Westfield State volleyball coach Fred Glanville said.
