BIRMINGHAM — Birmingham Seaholm senior Grayson Davis earned first place at the Boys Oakland County Championship Dive Tournament Feb. 3 at Royal Oak Middle School.
Davis was the returning champion for the tournament and retained his title after outpointing second place by 57.6 points. Davis’ 475.50 score was 67.6 points higher than his point total at the Oakland County Championship tournament in 2022.
“It’s been pretty steady,” Davis said of the season. “Definitely a lot of great competitors so far. I have off days, but I learn to push through them.”
Davis has been impressive this season for Seaholm, earning first at the Brighton Mini Invitational, second at the Spartan Invitational and a trio of victories in head-to-head meets. Davis, who is currently undefeated in dual meets this season, went undefeated in dual meets last season.
Already one of the top Division 2 springboard divers in the state, Davis will look to continue his success before Seaholm’s trip to the state finals.
Seaholm, which was the state champion in 2021, finished fifth at the Michigan High School Athletic Association Division 2 State Finals in 2022. Davis finished fifth at the state meet as well.
Davis, who is committed to the University of Michigan for diving, said Seaholm’s culture is one he plans to take with him to Michigan, especially with former Seaholm teammate Kameron Liberman already diving for Michigan as well.
“It’s a very good community to be a part of because I look at it less as a team and more of a family, and that’s exactly what it feels like,” Davis said.
