Rochester Hills man dies in head-on crash on Rochester Road

OAKLAND TOWNSHIP – A 90-year-old man from Rochester Hills died in a head-on collision Feb. 9 in Oakland Township.

The Oakland County Sheriff’s Office has identified the 90-year-old man as William Frederick Stanley Jr.

The crash happened at approximately 9:26 a.m. on Rochester Road at Lonesome Oak Drive in Oakland Township.

Police said Stanley was traveling southbound on Rochester Road when his 2002 GMC Sierra crossed over the center line and struck a 2024 Dodge Ram heading northbound. 

The roadway was extremely icy at the time of the crash, according to deputies.

The 2024 Dodge Ram was driven by a 44-year-old Oakland Township man, who was not injured in the crash.

Stanley was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead. It was not immediately known if he was wearing a seat belt.

Police said drugs and alcohol were not factors in the crash.

The Oakland County Sheriff’s Office Crash Reconstruction Unit is investigating.
