ROCHESTER HILLS — After leading the Rochester Adams varsity softball team to the regional championship game, it was an easy decision for the Michigan High School Softball Coaches Association to name junior Ella McDonald first team all-state.
“It was awesome,” McDonald said. “It’s been a goal of mine since I became a freshman; it was surreal when I found out.”
McDonald, who is committed to Ferris State University, commanded centerfield for Adams while having an explosive season at the plate.
Tallying 40 RBIs and 51 runs, McDonald carried a .480 average with a 1.199 on-base plus slugging. McDonald also contributed a .538 on-base percentage with 14 doubles on the year.
“I have been able to bunt and slap on base all year,” McDonald said. “Being able to steal bases and get those extra bags to get in scoring position definitely helped us in a lot of games.”
McDonald will return for her final year next season as Adams will look to make a run at the state title.
