SHELBY TOWNSHIP — The Shelby Township Police Department is investigating a hit and run that injured a pedestrian in a shopping center parking lot last month.
The collision occurred at approximately 5:40 p.m. Oct. 21 at the Walmart located at 23 Mile Road and Shelby Parkway.
The driver of a light-colored small SUV was backing out of a parking spot and struck an older woman who was walking in the parking lot.
Sgt. Mark Benedettini, of the Shelby Township Police Department, said the pedestrian is expected to recover.
“The elderly female is expected to recover from her injuries. The driver of the vehicle that struck the elderly female left the scene,” said Benedettini.
On Oct. 25, police put out a be-on-the-lookout to the community, which helped them identify the driver. Police had clear surveillance photos of the driver, who was a woman wearing a striped sweater.
“We posted photos of the driver who left the scene on our department’s Facebook page, and with the public’s assistance, she was identified the same day we posted the photos. Our detectives are currently still investigating and speaking with the female driver,” he said.
The department’s Oct. 25 post said that police did not know if the driver was aware that she hit the pedestrian.
