NOVI — Dominating on both the mound and at the plate, Novi varsity softball junior Reganne Bennett was a consistent contributor for the District 14 champions and was named first team all-state by the Michigan High School Softball Coaches Association.
“I was so excited,” Bennett said. “I didn’t even know how to respond.”
Returning from elbow inflammation late in the season, Bennett carried a 0.583 ERA while tallying 44 strikeouts in 24 innings of work. Bennett pitched both games, including a 7-5 win over Canton, the No. 10-ranked team in Division I, in the opening round of districts.
Bennett, who is committed to the University of South Carolina, was explosive offensively, posting a .632 batting average with a 1.845 on-base plus slugging percentage. Bennett tallied 15 home runs, 72 hits and 68 RBIs to end her junior year.
“I want to hit home runs; I had a goal this season to hit a home run every outing,” Bennett said. “Even though I didn’t, it put in my mind that I want to drive the ball and hit for power.”
Off the field, Bennett carried a 4.0 GPA and earned the Kensington Lakes Activities Association scholar athlete award.
