Local 14U team raises money for children with cancer
BLOOMFIELD HILLS — Incoming Detroit Country Day freshman Broder Katke was selected to play in this year’s Select Fest at the JetBlue Ballpark, the spring training home of the Boston Red Sox, in Fort Myers, Florida.
Since beginning with Bloomfield Baseball Little League at 6 years old, Katke has played with the Bloomfield STING and Motor City Hit Dogs. He is already committed to playing baseball at Duke.
Each Select Fest invitee is asked to set a personal fundraising goal to benefit children with cancer at Golisano Children’s Hospital of Southwest Florida. His goal is to raise $3,000.
Players will also make a visit to the hospital to have the opportunity to interact with the young patients.
Many children treated for cancer at Golisano Children’s Hospital are uninsured, on Medicaid or have no form of payment.
Katke will play with the other selected players in Florida on Sept. 3 at 11 a.m.
