WARREN — At the Oct. 19 Warren Consolidated Schools Board of Education meeting, the school board unanimously named Warren Mott High School Principal David Meengs as the district’s chief academic officer.
In his new role, effective Oct. 20, Meengs will oversee the district’s elementary, middle and high schools, as well as all aspects of instructional programs and projects in the district. Meengs is taking over the position from John Bernia, who accepted a job as superintendent for the Walled Lake Consolidated School District.
“I look forward to taking on this new role and partnering with district leaders, students, staff, and community stakeholders,” Meengs said in a prepared statement. “The educational landscape is challenging, and I am excited to be part of making a difference in a leadership role, while supporting the superintendent to continue to provide the highest levels of learning and engagement in an ever-changing, competitive educational environment.”
Meengs has worked for Warren Consolidated Schools for 23 years. He served as assistant principal at Warren Mott for six years, assistant principal at Cousino High School for eight years, and has held his current position as Warren Mott’s principal for the past five years.
Prior to becoming an administrator, Meengs was a district social studies and leadership teacher. Under Meengs’ leadership, 11th grade students at Warren Mott saw a 40-point increase in their SAT scores.
“Mr. Meengs is an outstanding administrator who always puts students first,” district Superintendent Robert Livernois said. “With his commitment to fostering strong relationships and a consistent focus on student achievement, I am pleased to have him assume the role of chief academic officer.”
Meengs holds a bachelor’s degree from Western Michigan University and a master’s degree from Saginaw Valley State University.
Warren Mott Assistant Principal Kevin Kittle was named interim principal of Warren Mott for the remainder of the 2022-23 school year.
