MACOMB TOWNSHIP — Macomb Township officials approved a set of additions to the Riverview Estates sanitary sewer trunkline at the Oct. 12 Board of Trustees meeting.
Located along 24 Mile Road and ending at a pumping station, the township approved the addition of several items to the nearly $670,000 developer-funded project.
The township will pay for the addition of a water main extension from the north side of 24 Mile to the pump station on the south side, for cleaning and maintenance of the station; an extension of a gravity sanitary sewer under 24 Mile, to serve future developments north of that; and signage identifying the township-maintained infrastructure.
“With the construction of (the trunkline), just like most of these assets, the township takes ownership after the project is over, and it will be our responsibility to maintain and repair that lift station and the trunkline,” said Kevin Johnson, township department of public works director.
The cost for the additions is estimated at about $106,100.
Trustees also approved the purchase of snow removal attachments for Department of Public Works vehicles at a cost of about $51,300. Included in the purchase are four plow blades and one 8-foot-wide box blade, replacing a 10-foot-wide box blade.
Public hearings scheduled
Trustees also approved the scheduling of two public hearings: one for a lighting special assessment district, and one for a proposed Industrial Development District.
The public hearing for the lighting district is to add part of the Rockwood subdivision to an existing SAD.
“As part of our audit of the street lighting SADs here in the township, we discovered one problem with one of our SADs in Rockwood subdivision,” said James Van Tiflin, township land development director. “It seems that the second phase of the subdivision wasn’t officially put into the special assessment district, so we worked with the township attorney to draft an appropriate resolution to include them, but we need to have a public hearing.”
The hearing will be held at the Nov. 16 Board of Trustees meeting. Van Tiflin said the change will have no effect on residential taxes.
The IDD public hearing is a result of a request from MISC Properties LLC for the use of part of Lot 9 and all of Lot 10 in the Macomb Corporate Center, which is located on the south side of 23 Mile Road and west of Romeo Plank Road. The hearing will be held at the Nov. 30 Board of Trustees meeting.
Part-time code officer hired
Trustees have approved the hiring of an additional part-time ordinance enforcement officer.
Interviewed back in August, David Popovich will begin enforcing zoning, sign, nuisance, weeds, blight, sidewalk, littering and other ordinances on Jan. 3, 2023.
