2. Hockey Mentors for Special Olympians
July 8 • Troy
Back by popular demand, Hockey Mentors for Special Olympians will host its second annual event from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. July 8 at Buffalo Wild Wings Arena, 1819 E. Big Beaver Road in Troy. The nonprofit organization was born out of an Eagle Scout project by Troy native and Lawrence Technological University student Wyatt Lucas, and welcomed 100 participants in 2022. This year's athletes will receive a jersey, T-shirt and provided lunch; enjoy an afternoon of skating with trained instructors; and watch and participate in a game featuring players who have special needs. 3. Kid's Summer Olympics
July 8 • Shelby Township
Boys and girls can compete for awards in multiple events during the Kid’s Summer Olympics July 8 at Whispering Woods Park, 11000 21 Mile Road in Shelby Township. Take part in the 40-yard dash/hurdles, baseball toss, disc toss, broad jump and long jump at 10 a.m. (ages 3-5), 11 a.m. (ages 6-8) and noon (ages 9-12). 4. 'John & Jen'
July 7-9 • Walled Lake
The new professional theater group The Inspired Acting Company will present its second musical, "John & Jen," at 8 p.m. July 7-8 and 2 p.m. July 9 at 1124 E. West Maple Road in Walled Lake. The "story about connections, commitments and the healing of the human heart" will also be staged July 14-16 and 21-23. Tickets cost $45 and can be purchased at inspiredacting.org. 5. World War II Reenactment
July 8-9 • Chesterfield Township
The Chesterfield Historical Society, 47275 Sugarbush Road in Chesterfield Township, will host the Michigan Military Technical & Historical Society for two days of authentic World War II combat, encampment life and vehicle displays. The events will run 10 a.m.-4 p.m. July 8 and 10 a.m.-3 p.m. July 9, with the battles set for 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. The entrance fee is a donation of $1 per person or $2 per family; food and drinks will be available for purchase.
