1. Founders Festival
July 20-22 • Farmington

The Greater Farmington Founders Festival, now in its 59th year, is scheduled for July 20-22. Activities include a dance party, live music, beverages and food trucks at Grand River Avenue and Farmington Road at various times all three days; a kids area featuring the Airborne Bouncers stage shows, live sand art and a foam party from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. July 21-22; a crafters market and the Farmington Fido Fest featuring the Ultimate Air Dogs and the Disc Dogs of Michigan Frisbee Show, both 10 a.m.-7 p.m. July 21-22; and a 5K color run through Shiawassee Park and downtown Farmington at 9 a.m. and a parade along Grand River at 10 a.m., both July 22. 2. Festival of Chariots
July 23 • Novi

The 38th annual Festival of Chariots, a free Indian spiritual and cultural festival, will return to Novi July 23. The celebration will feature a parade that includes a four-story chariot, and speeches by Mayor Bob Gatt and other dignitaries. The 3-mile procession will start at 11 a.m. at the Novi Civic Center, 45175 10 Mile Road, and make its way to Fuerst Park, located at the corner of 10 Mile Road and Taft, next to the Novi Public Library. The party will continue with live music, dancing, food vendors, cooking demonstrations and more at the park from 1 to 6 p.m. For more information, visit thefestivalofchariots.com.


3. Garden walk
July 23 • Warren

The Warren Garden Club will host its biennial garden walk from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. July 23. The event will feature gardens surrounding the unique homes in the Warren Village Historic District at Chicago and Mound roads. Tickets cost $8 in advance and $12 the day of the walk, and can be purchased at Jim’s Florist, 31702 Mound Road in Warren; Greco’s Indoor/Outdoor Garden Center, 12219 E. 11 Mile Road in Warren; and Gardens & Beyond (formerly Eckert’s Greenhouse & Perennials), 34051 Ryan Road in Sterling Heights. Proceeds will help fund the Warren Garden Club Scholarship Fund, 4-H endowment and Keep Michigan Beautiful. 4. Parade, carnival and fireworks
July 20-23 • Fraser

Fraser's annual carnival, parade and fireworks are scheduled for July 20-23 in and around Steffens Park at 14 Mile and Garfield roads. The carnival will take place from 4 p.m. to midnight July 20-21, noon to midnight July 22 and noon to 10 p.m. July 23. During the final day, the fiesta-themed parade will begin at noon and the fireworks will go off at dusk. Look and listen for live music, vendors, a beer tent and raffles all four days, as well as a cornhole tournament at 2 p.m. July 22. 5. ‘Mary Poppins: The Broadway Musical’
July 20-23 • Rochester Hills

The Rochester Community Schools Summer Music Theatre program will perform “Mary Poppins: The Broadway Musical” at 7 p.m. July 20-22 (July 19 is sold out) and 2 p.m. July 23 at the Rochester Adams High School Performing Arts Center, 3200 Tienken Road in Rochester Hills. The Summer Music Theatre — featuring more than 120 students in grades 7-12 — is operated as a professional production, from auditions through staging to technical arrangements, set design and orchestra accompaniments. Tickets cost $14 for students and $16 for adults, and can be purchased at smt.ludus.com.
