The city of Farmington Hills is scheduled host a suicide prevention community forum, and the public is encouraged to participate.
Community members will have the opportunity to share input and ideas with local law enforcement and mental health professionals to enhance emergency response, suicide prevention and awareness of mental health services, according to a press release from the city of Farmington Hills.
“Communities across Michigan continue to struggle with mental health incidents, and law enforcement agencies are the primary emergency responders,” Farmington Hills Police Chief Jeff King stated via the release. “By bringing professionals, leaders and community members together in this forum, we will gain vital insight that will help shape our path forward as we continue to enhance emergency response, save lives, and support our neighbors and their families, as they deal with mental health crises.”
The forum is set to be held 5:30-8:30 p.m. Sept. 14 in the Hawk Community Center Auditorium at 29995 12 Mile Road in Farmington Hills.
The event is free and open to the public.
Forum participants that have been scheduled include King, Southfield Police Chief Elvin Barren, Oak Park Director of Public Safety Steve Cooper, Detroit Police Chief James White, Wayne County Sheriff Raphael Washington, Corewell Health, Suicide Awareness For Everyone, Farmington Public Schools, the Cardinal Group and the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention.
