GROSSE POINTE WOODS — The Grosse Pointe Public School System community tailgate is back for another year to celebrate the Grosse Pointe North vs. Grosse Pointe South football game, but with a little bit more of a normal feel this year.
“Last year, we were very fortunate in October with the weather and people were wearing masks in the school and everything, but this year is definitely more back to normal,” Grosse Pointe Public School System Communications Coordinator Mary Anne Brush said.
The tailgate will take place at Grosse Pointe North High School from 5 to 7 p.m. Oct. 21 and will offer food trucks, music, games and various tables hosted by local nonprofit organizations.
Like the pre-district baseball matchup between North and South earlier this year, the rivalry football matchup between both teams brought in 3,000 fans last season.
“It’s a big deal to the community,” Brush said. “We love the rivalry, but we’re all one school district.”
Nonprofit organizations that will be taking part in the tailgate include Grosse Pointe Alumni and Friends Association, Grosse Pointe Historical Society, Ford House, NAACP Grosse Pointe and Harper Woods Branch, Grosse Pointe Young Life, Grosse Pointe South Choir Boosters, Grosse Pointe North Choir, Grosse Pointe North Parents Club, Grosse Pointe South Mothers Club, Grosse Pointe Red Barons, and more.
