A significant swing of events late in the first half propelled Macomb Dakota to a 34-14 win against Chippewa Valley in a district final on Friday evening.

Down 17-7 with less than two minutes remaining in the half, Chippewa Valley had the ball inside the Dakota 10-yard line but came away no points after a field goal was blocked.

Dakota then used a 49-yard touchdown pass from Tyler Crowell to Benji Marshall to put the Cougars ahead 24-7 going into halftime.

"It was unbelievable. We called the route and Marshalld made the catch. That was huge," Dakota coach Mike Giannone said. "I thought our guys played extremely well. It's a difficult thing coming and playing a good football team, and we did not take them lightly."

After halftime, Troy Taylor had a 2-yard touchdown rush for Chippewa to cut the Dakota lead to 24-14.

On the ensuing possession, Zachary Flack broke through the Chippewa defensive line on a third-and-one to carry in a 55-yard touchdown to put Dakota up 31-14.

The game was a rematch of a regular-season contest in which Dakota won 52-7. Chippewa closes its season with a 9-2 record.

Dakota will play the winner of Warren Mott and Cass Tech in a regional final. The date, time and location have yet to be determined for that contest.
