WARREN — Basketball enthusiasts will once again have a chance to improve their hoops skills during a week-long camp hosted by Macomb Community College.
The Macomb Metro D Basketball Camp will take place from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. July 14-18 at the school’s Sports & Expo Center (P-Building) on MCC’s south campus. The facility has eight full basketball courts.
The camp is open to boys and girls age 9 to 17. Campers will be grouped in divisions based on age: Big Ten (9-11 years old), College (12-13) and NBA (14-17). The age groups are tentative and are determined by enrollment. Campers are divided by gender.
Cost to attend the five-day camp is $165, $180 if the fee is paid the day the camp opens.
Camp directors include MCC men’s basketball coach Jim Twigg, MCC women’s basketball coach Jay Ritchie, former MCC coach John Switchulis and Basketball Coaches Association of Michigan Hall of Fame member Jim Champine, who has served as a camp director for 30 years.
Campers will work on several facets of the game at various stations, including individual/team defense, shooting skills, passing and rebounding.
Contests and tournaments will also take place during the camp, including one-on-one and three-on-three leagues. Awards (MVP, defense) will be handed out at the conclusion of the event.
Each camper will receive a release of liability form via email upon registering. The form can also be found at www.macomb. edu/athletics under Camps and Events. Campers must present the form the first day of camp.
