About the reporter: Robert Guttersohn primarily covers Royal Oak and Clawson crime, schools and government and writes for the Royal Oak Review. He enjoys writing enterprise and human-interest stories.

About the story: Robert first heard of the budget cuts to the U.S. Naval Sea Cadet Corps through a letter written to him from a Clawson parent. The story quickly became much larger than Clawson and Metro Detroit when he learned orders to end funding to the program came from the Pentagon.
